Triggering Factors that Cause Pain in Breast

/ On : 3:19 PM
Health-Net: Pain in breast is a common complaint that is often experienced by women either constant or intermittent. This condition turned out to be triggered by several factors. What are the causes of pain in the breast area?

Pain in the breast area is usually depicted with the pain in one or both breasts, a burning feeling or tightness in the breast tissue. These symptoms are more common in young, premenopausal women and perimenopausal women.

Pain is felt in the breast can be divided into two types:
  1. Cyclic pain
  2. Monocyclic pain.
Is usually related to hormones such as menstrual cycles and not dangerous. While monocyclic pain in the breast area usually comes from the breast itself or the surrounding area.
Even so there are some triggering factors that cause pain in breast, as quoted from the Mayo Clinic on Friday May 20, 2011:
  • Reproductive hormones, cyclic pain in breast are estimated to have a strong relationship with hormonal and menstrual cycle. This pain will be reduced or lost when one is pregnant or menopausal.
  • Anatomical factors, non-cyclic pain in breast is more likely due to the anatomy as triggered by a cyst, trauma, previous surgery or other factors associated with breast. But pain can also be caused by outside factors such as the chest wall, muscles, joints or heart that spreads to the breast.
  • The imbalance of fatty acids, an imbalance in the cell can influence the sensitivity of breast tissue to circulating hormones. Therefore people who have a disproportionate amount of fatty acids will be given medication to regulate the balance and reduce the sensitivity of breast tissue.
  • Consumption of certain drugs, some consumption of the hormone medications such as contraceptives and infertility treatments medicines can trigger pain in breast. Some studies reported an antidepressant drug can also trigger pain.
  • Breast size, women who have large breast size is more likely to experience non-cyclic pain in breast. Discomfort is sometimes felt also in the neck, shoulders and back. Several studies have shown that the reduction surgery sometimes can reduce this problem.
  • The use of incorrect bra size, using a bra in a size that is not appropriate for example is too small to trigger pain, this is because the bra will push the breast and do not endorse them well.
Although sometimes harmless, but on certain conditions this pain should not be ignored and should consult a physician, namely:
  • Constant pain every day for more than a few weeks
  • The pain is localized in one particular area of the breast
  • The pain worsened that arise from time to time
  • The pain that comes already disrupt daily activities
Some suggestions might be to try to relieve pain such as using an appropriate bra to reduce breast movement in the chest wall, and record and mark whenever the pain can be expected to arise that cause.
