Eating Fish May Prevent Brain Damage

Health-Net: People who regularly eat fish may have a lower risk of subtle brain damage that contributes to stroke and dementia, as long as it is not fried fish, researchers said.

In one study conducted on 3660 adults aged 65 years and over, some Finnish researchers found that those who ate more fish faced less risk for brain infarcts show secretly certain (small area networks that have died due to supply inadequate blood) on MRI examination.

Further research is needed on why these fish species may have a protective effect, but the omega 3 fatty acids EPA and DHA seem to have a major role, said Virtanen.
